When I Was Your Age
05:04

Let me tell you sonny-- let me set you straight
You kids today ain't never had it rough
Always had everything handed to you on a silver plate
You lazy brats think nothing's good enough
Nobody ever drove me to school when it was 90° below
We had to walk butt naked through 40 miles of snow
Worked in the coal mine 22 hours a day for just half a cent
Had to sell my internal organs just to pay the rent
Let me tell you something, you whiney little snot
There's something wrong with all you kids today
You just don't appreciate all the things you've got
We were hungry broke and miserable, and we liked it fine that way
Well there were 73 of us living in a cardboard box
All I got for Christmas was a lousy bag of rocks
And every night for dinner, we'd have a big old chunk of dirt
If we were really good, we didn't get dessert
Didn't have no telephone, didn't have no fax machine:
All we had was a couple cans and a crummy piece of string
Didn't have no swimming pool when I was just a lad:
Our neighbors' septic tank was the closest thing we had
Didn't have no dental floss: had to use old rusty nails
Didn't have that XBox: we just poured salt on snails
Didn't have no waterbed: had to sleep on broken glass
Didn't have no lawnmower: we used our teeth to cut the grass
What's that you say, sonny? You say you don't believe this junk?
You think my story's wearing kind of thin
I'll tell you this: I never was such a disrespectful punk
Back In my time, we had a thing called discipline
Daddy'd whoop us every night 'til a quarter after twelve
Then he'd get too tired, and he'd make us whoop ourselves
Then he'd chop me into pieces and play frisbee with my brain
And let me tell you, junior: it weren't no fucking game

Serpent Psalm
04:55
|

The sidewinder's stealthy, though his tracks lead you his way
He's probably met some scorpions with some words to say:
"My venom's slain the Sultan's son-- how's that make you feel?"
But when we catch up to them, know...
That stinger's just a meal
Forked tongue: smell the sweat and taste the blood
Of those whose path bears his shadow
Open eyes: unblinking while the stream and the struggle dissolve in his clamp on the battle
The anaconda's under where all others want for air
Lofty though submerged in his encompassing snare
A jolly school of otters brave the waters by the pair
When those otters met their slaughter...
None had told them to beware
The boa graces swiftly o'r the path under the trees
Relishing the scent: his running prey bleeds at the knees
Then coils bind the tripping wreck as cry gives yield to wheeze
And muscles strum a scaley gag...
While all the while it pleads:
"Help my fight: that I may see the sunrise at a resting heartrate!
Block this hemorrhage: let my voice be joyful on another midnight!
Seize my pursuers: let the glowing day make claim that I am upright!
Draw the breath back...
Of those whose path bears his shadow."

Special Things

I think about the ways that I want to make you feel
On any given day, or what you think is real
I hope if I meet you that I make you smile
Or that someone will treat you with happiness meanwhile
You talk about the things that you do when you're alone
When you're telephone rings or a friend comes to your home
I know that you may see me and I might know you're there
But we can share our feelings as we do things everywhere

Monster Vision
03:37
|
|||
I woke up this morning, put my contacts in
Saw me a zombie in the laudry bin
I rubbed my eyes good, made sure which house I was in
No zombie jumped upon me-- let the day begin
I said, "Lord alert me when there's something here to hurt me"
I pushed the button on my toaster oven
Out popped a green lady, Straight Outta Coven
I screamed out for my mother's love and
Dug up the label from last night's stuffing
I got that Monster Vision
You think this is some superstition
I see them everywhere I see and they're looking at me
Got that Monster Vision
I hopped on my bike to make the ride to my car
And I'm dodging the mummy 'bout halfway to the bar
I got back my keys and I smoked me some tar
Said, "Moe, watch out, 'cause they know where we are"
Stroll into work for my check and stub
Swamp Thing creature got me in a bear hug
I yell, "Please help me!" do a guy I always snub
And he simply smiles and says, "Have a good vacation, bub"
I got that Monster Vision
I got that geeky, ghouly beach party vision
Freaky fun is my new mission
Got that Monster Vision

Tell Me Now
03:24
|
|||
My friends say I should take a little rest
But I'm thinking about you and I can't help it
'Cause you were all my summer dreams-- crazy little dreams
I guess I've never felt like this before
No, I've never been this crazy about someone
Tell me now: where are my summer dreams?
I guess they fade away with all the things I say
I know that I can't help it
I'm driving all the way down to the keys
Maybe find Key West, or just a place to hide
...There's no way to explain the feelings that remain
...There's no way to explain with all the things I say
...I guess they fade away, the feelings that remain
They were just summer dreams
