Writing this song was a revolution for us. It was right then that we went from full-time goofy improvisations of the lowest fi imaginable to actual songs to be rehearsed and performed.
One of many versions, this is recognized as the official one. Dave and I went to the Melon Rind to record with Marc, our first time doing anything more complex than turning on a single tape deck.
It was our first time to even work with any kind of soundboard, let alone multi-tracking.
Kris did overdub a drum track on these vocal, bass, and guitar tracks for the 'Melon Rind 1994' version.
There are also acoustic, electric, telephone, and several live versions.
lyrics
I had a lettuce patch in Wyoming
One day I saw some ears and heard a ring
It was a rabbit's bell-- a fair warning
Now you must run and hide-- the rabbits are coming
